Baseball is a game Eugene Letkeman
has loved forever and a day.
It's because of that passion that Baseball Manitoba welcomed the long-time Altona Minor Baseball volunteer into the association's Honour Society this past weekend

Eugene Letkeman
- Honour Society Inductee
A long-time volunteer in Altona, Eugene continues to be actively involved, be it coaching, announcing, field maintenance, or whatever needs to be done. He is a constant presence at the fields in Altona, helping in whatever capacity he can, being a positive influence on all he comes in contact with. This past season serves as an example of the annual commitment Eugene has to the community. He mowed the three diamonds all season, including the Western Canada Championships Altona hosted. He reconstructed the dugouts on all the fields and served as public address announcer and scorekeeper for provincial and western competitions. Field maintenance was not just limited to grass cutting, but also included raking and chalking the fields, and seeding and watering the diamonds.

Also, it what seems like an annual thing, he somehow also found time to
be an assistant coach, this year for the Midget team. As a coach he is one that
always encourages when others would have discouraged. Eugene always shows up to
the diamond with a smile on his face and keeps that all the way through the
games and practices. He is a fair, unbiased coach who respects his players and
their talents. Eugene has a way with his players that made them feel extremely
special and is always willing to work extra with the boys to help them with
anything they need. His knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of baseball is
evident, and there is always excitement in his voice when talking about ball.
His teams have won championships, but more importantly Eugene is proud of the
players he had the pleasure of coaching.
