Safety agency wants to speed up repairs of recalled cars
Automakers have a hard time reaching and convincing customers to get repairs done on cars recalled for serious safety defects. In cases involving major problems, completion rates are below 15 per cent, six months or more after the recalls were announced. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants to get the repair rate to 100 per cent within 18 months.
